You know the saying - when the time is right the right solution always provides itself? Well I'm a firm believer that this is true and live my life with this in mind.
Over the past year my life has been less than settled and has involved a number of major changes, along with five moves. I guess by the time this last one arrived I was pretty tired of it all, and the last thing I wanted to face was another band of removalists—hourly rates with time estimates that extend, the inevitable scratches and damage to cherished (or not so cherished belongings) and everything that goes with moving. My new partner had also moved three times in the past year and so, like me, he was dreading yet another move.
I did the usual–rang the local removal companies for quotes, checked with a couple of nationals and also got prices for the various "2 man and his truck style" options.
Then on Sunday evening, the night before I really had to make a final decision and take some action, I saw a TV advert for a service I'd never heard of. I'd seen container options for moving but this was different--(Portable On Demand Storage).
They promised to deliver a container to our front door, leave it for us to pack, then pick it up using technology that meant it didn't have to be tipped at all, deliver it to our new home and then leave us to unpack before returning to collect the container.
When I did the cost comparison, it turned out the service offered by (Portable On Demand Storage) would cost about the same as I estimated a removalist would cost—without all the hassles. Better still, since the service was new there was even an introductory discount!!!
It seemed just the right answer at just the right time!
Booking was easy—a simple phone call to a 1800 number, and from then on there was either full telephone and/or online support and project tracking!
Two days later a modern, 16ft clean white container was delivered to our driveway with the opening pointing towards our door—just as we had asked. The inside was immaculate, the floors and walls were lined with marine ply and there was a skylight to ensure you could see what you were doing. Also, the whole container was lowered to the ground hydraulically, which meant there was no tilting involved.
We had all week to pack the container ourselves–making sure we loaded everything in an order that made sense for unpacking at the other end, and in a timeline we controlled. We didn’t need to lift heavy boxes onto tail gates, trying to direct removalists to make sure things got loaded in an appropriate order and no stress to get it all done in one hit! The only tricky bit was lining up a volunteer to help with the solid wooden wall unit, which was much easier to load into the container than it had been transporting to the house by ute originally.
Anyway, it was simply a matter of booking the day and time for transport to our new home, along with instructions on which way to point the container doors. The truck arrived as promised to collect the container within the time window specified, the staff were great and the container even beat us to our new place!!! Once deposited on the front lawn, it was a simple matter for us to take our time and unload the container at our own pace—before calling to organize for its collection when we were finished. We moved a full three bedroom house load of belongings in one container.
I'd highly recommend (Portable On Demand Storage). While I trust this is my last move for a while, I certainly won't loose the contact for (Portable On Demand Storage)!!!
